Home > The Basic Techniques of Taekwondo
Regular practice of the basic techniques is essential throughout the student’s journey through the discipline both for general maintenance of the body and for improving neuro-muscular coordination.

A strong cardio-vascular system enhances ease of execution, respiratory control, stability, and accuracy.

The choice of instruction method is essential, and is made in relation to the different kind of student practitioner: children, adolescents, and then men and women in different age brackets: from 20 to 35 years, 35 to 45, 45 to 55 and older.

Practitioners will quickly learn that it is by concentrating on the fundamentals that constant improvement is made in the self-defense techniques.

The basic techniques allow the practitioner to perfect the offensive and defensive techniques, which should be applied against various attacks by opponents in the spirit of a real battle.

The first principle is to practice them as often as possible in order to adapt them to one’s body.

The progressive application of various training methods in the dojang leads to the acquisition of the basic techniques with the onus placed on accuracy.

A good state of mind is important for the Dojang atmosphere as it is a place of self-improvement. Patience, perseverance, self-control, modesty and respect are qualities to be developed. The difficulty level of each individual technique (Kisul), demands a corresponding degree of conscientiousness from the practitioner.

Rigour and discipline are the values that govern Taekwondo practice in the dojang. In the evolution of the Taekwondo practitioner, it is difficult to distinguish the beginning from the end. Adept students quickly become aware that they must often focus on the basic moves if they want to perfect self-defense techniques.

Knowing how to convey the basic techniques is essential because the future of taekwondo depends upon it; and so in the Kukkiwon method, we must constantly refine the basic techniques of Taekwondo which are implemented, without omitting the general values which regulate its practice.
