Punctuality and good attendance as well as proper concentration during
lessons are necessary factors for any progress to be made. A number of codified formulas
and acts of respect and politeness are also part of everyday practice.
The first part of a session allows practitioners of all levels to warm up
properly – that is for at least 20 minutes – in order to be able to work safely (taekwondo and
health). The practitioners then perform the basic techniques (kibon dojang), forms (poomse),
the various conventional combat exercises (yaksot kyeurougi), techniques for self defense
(hosin-sul), and sparring routines (shiap kyeurougi), in order to work on the different aspects
of taekwondo.
Every time a practitioner enters or leaves the trainging hall (dojang) they
should bow. At the beginning and the end of the course, when the signal is given by the most
senior student, the practitioners bring their arms to their sides (tchalyeut) and bow, first
to the teacher (nim-sabeum ke kyeung-nie), then to the most senior student. At the beginning
and end of each exercise, practitioners also bow to their partners.
