Dojangs as centres of education cannot function without the presence of women,
who guarantee a holistic atmosphere essential to human relations. Working methods
have been adapted to the natural abilities and specific anatomy of women. Their
natural propensities are brought to the fore through a carefully developed teaching
regime.
During teaching different kinds of aptitude are taken into
consideration, focusing especially on differences in morphology. Although women
have better flexibility, muscular protection is also less well assured, the bones
are generally thinner and more fragile, and there are more risks concerning the
articulations than for men. As a result, the practitioner’s concentration, and
the pursuit of aesthetics and self-control are highly important elements of women's
taekwondo. When learning free-sparring women are required to wear all appropriate
forms of protection (helmet, chest guard, groin guard, forearm and shin guards,
and hand and foot protectors).
